Yamanouchi-cho is located in the northeastern part of Nagano Prefecture and is in the center of the Joshinetsukogen National Park. There are three areas for sightseeing: Shiga Kogen and Kita Shiga Kogen, both of which have wonderful natural surroundings and large ski resorts, and Yudanaka Shibu Onsen (hot spring), which boasts a history of 1,300 years. These areas are designated as UNESCO Eco Parks and are one of the only 10 registered in Japan for the purpose of coexistence between humans and nature.
Shiga Kogen UNESCO Eco Park
You can see wild monkeys, nicknamed "snow monkeys", taking a bath in hot springs which is popular among tourists. Various agricultural products are cultivated by taking advantage of the natural blessings of the Shiga Kogen UNESCO Eco Park. Due to the ideal location and weather conditions, fruits, such as apples, grapes and peaches that grow there are of high quality. The clear mineral-rich streams from the 2,000-meter-high mountains, the cool, clean air, and the large difference in temperature between day and night, help to make the fruit juicy.
Sukagawa Soba, a traditional japanese noodle, made with the fiber of mountain burdock leaves, is known for its firmness and smoothness. Shinshu Beef, which is raised on an apple-fed diet, is tender and fragrant, with excellent marbled meat. Nutritious mushrooms such as enoki mushrooms and beech mushrooms, as well as good quality rice, are also recommended. In Yamanouchi-cho, why don't you experience "coexistence with nature" and "the blessings of nature", and enjoy a "healing space" to be freed from your daily life.
