Tochigi Nikkori Pear
Tochigi pears are really delicious thanks to the good-quality soil and to the fact that they receive plenty of sunlight. Nikkori pears are known for their large size and sweetness. They were cultivated first in 1984 in Tochigi when the juicy Hosui pear was blended with the large Niitaka type. The name "Nikkori" comes from Nikko, a city in Tochigi, and the Chinese word for pear, pronounced "ri."
The best time to pick Nikkori pear starts around mid-October. They taste best just after being picked, but you can also freeze them and enjoy them until January of the following year. Be sure to try these large, exquisite Tochigi pears.
